Happy 1st Birthday Son!!
Fatherhood at 48: A blessing!
But being a Dad in my late forties does come with a little more planning and thought process, especially when I’ve spent two decades in Dubai advising expats on their finances.
I’m a money coach, but also I’m a Dad. So, when it came to Mason’s future, I use Dad instincts with a touch of financial know-how.
Here was my most immediate list…
1. Wills & Guardianship:
Simply put, it’s the Dad in me wanting to ensure Mason is always in safe hands. Creating a documented and legal plan is just putting that fatherly instinct on paper.
2. Mason’s Little Nest Egg:
Because what Dad doesn’t dream of giving their kid a head start? Mason will have a pot of gold to dip into when he most needs it.
3. Grandparents Chipping In:
Grandparents, right? Always slipping a note or two when they think I’m not looking. So, we decided on a smart way to stash away their generous gifts for Mason’s future.
4. Double-Checking Insurance:
It’s that age-old Dad promise: “I’ve got you covered.” Life, illness and health insurance are just my way of making sure I keep it, rain or shine.
5. That Financial Legacy:
This isn’t about being morbid; it’s about ensuring Mason’s roof over his head and school trips keep coming, regardless of what the universe throws our way.
6. School Spots:
In Dubai, nabbing a good school spot is akin to getting a Friday night spot in the best restaurant in town. You bet I reserved Mason’s!
7. Medical Check-In:
Just a Dad wanting to ensure that from scraped knees to the sniffles, Mason gets top-tier care.
This isn’t a corporate strategy; it’s a Dad’s game plan. It’s me channeling all the love, fun, and occasional Dad-panics into ensuring Mason’s future shines bright.
So, to all my friends, clients, and colleagues: As I throw my story into the ring, have a think. What outcomes are you scripting? How are you preparing for life’s messy, wonderful moments with sound financial planning?
